Families on a mid-term stay have a luxury that vacationers do not: time. You do not need to do the zoo, SeaWorld, LEGOLAND, and the beach in five days. Spread them out and keep weekday mornings calm.

Big-ticket attractions worth planning

The San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, Birch Aquarium, and the New Children's Museum all reward an early arrival. Buy timed tickets when possible and plan to leave before the afternoon meltdown window.

Rainy or gloomy days
