- Cowles Mountain: the highest point in the city of San Diego, a steady climb with big views.
- Old Mission Dam: a flat, easy walk with history.
- Visitor Center loops: short trails good for beginners.
When to go
Mornings are best. Fall and winter bring cooler temperatures, which makes this the ideal season to hike.
What to bring
Water, sun protection, and good shoes. Shade is limited on most trails.
