Julian is a small gold-rush-era mountain town and one of the easiest fall escapes from East County.
Getting there
From El Cajon, head east on I-8 and up through the mountains. The drive takes about an hour and is scenic the whole way.
What to do
- Try a slice of apple pie on Main Street.
- Visit orchards during apple season, typically late summer into fall.
- Walk the historic downtown and browse the shops.
Plan ahead
Weekends in October get busy. Leave early, and bring a layer — it is noticeably cooler at elevation.
